Easy to see why these are called Painted Turtles.
They sun mainly in the Spring and Fall when they need to raise their body temperatures.
They do travel to find new quarters. This one was in a driveway far from water. In the Spring they travel to find places to bury their eggs.
A baby. They look like the small turtles that used to be sold in Dime Stores and pet shops, and they nearly are. This turtle, in one form or another, is almost worldwide. The Red-Eared Turtle from China is in pet stores today and enough have escaped that Colorado now has its own colony at the Pueblo Reservoir.
