If my seventh grade English teacher had only had a picture when she tried to teach William Cullen Bryant’s poem “Fringed Gentian” it would have helped. I’m not sure anyone in the room knew it was about a flower. Our Prairie Gentian really stands out in a moist field. I only knew of three spots it grew and two of those disappeared in the 2013 flood. The pictures below were taken just west of the Merino Graveyard, in the watery swale.
