When birds begin washing up as these at Prewitt Reservoir, it is Avian Flu.  Below is one section of the beach.   I counted 98 dead at this site.  This virus has jumped to human, 3,000 reported in S.E. Asia.  Three hundred in this country.  Many laying hens have been killed in an effort to stop the virus’ spread.

Two were still alive but so weak I could have picked them up without their protesting.  The goose below is a young Snow Goose.

The Ross’s Goose was also hard hit.  Most of the fowl of any species seemed to be the young.

Here is another Snow Goose.

Predation will clean the sands.  A hunter told me this was small compared to three years ago when he was leasing this area.  North Sterling State Park also saw many dead.
