It was wise to call this fellow Yellow-Bellied Racer because the belly is a consistent yellow. The top can be blue, green, olive-drab to almost black. And can they fly. It is supposed to be capable of running down a whip-tailed lizard.
A blue-green topped Racer has caught and is eating a Plains Garter Snake.
This one was slow because on April 30 it had found a warm rock at North Sterling State Park.
Even the babies are fast.
And pretty.
