The Rio Grande Turkey is doing well along the South Platte.  At North Sterling State Park, where the picture below was taken, signs are hopeful.  The other Colorado turkey is the Merriam, living mostly in the mountains.  Where the tail fan fringe is orangish in the Rio Grande, it is more white in the Merriam.  Same for their rumps.  And they do cross breed.

This young female challenged me at the river while her babies disappeared into the foliage.  Hens and their broods often run with other hens and their broods.  This produces a large number of running poults.Rio Grande Turkey♀ at River Protecing Babies
