I have been hesitant to list this flower though it is bright and pretty. It has started appearing in this area largely, I suspect, from efforts of groups such as Pheasants Forever which plants what they call Pollinator Habitats. These sections attract insects and produce seeds that benefit ground game birds. The increase in Wild Blue Flax (those that grow tall as opposed to the short-stemmed native variety) is probably also a result of these plantings. The picture below was taken at North Sterling State Park where the ground was re-seeded following road work. The Indian Blanket can also be seen along Highway 14 near Pioneer Park, along with the Blue Flax.
