The Cicada appear in middle to late July. The white dustiness on the specimen below is known as “pruinescence.”
Five eyes. The two large pinkish ones and the three red ones on its nose.
Life can be short. This one, feeding on ragweed, took off and was immediately snatched in flight by a Mississippi Kite. (The Mississippi Kite on the power line in he Bird section is holding this poor fellow.)
