A handsome but not the most loved bird in Colorado.  Another name for the Loggerhead Shrike is The Butcher Bird.  It catches insects and small birds and empales them on cactus spines or barbed wire, perhaps to impress potential mates.  Its near identical cousin, the Northern Shrike, comes down for our Winters.  The last two pictures are examples of the Butcher Bird’s work.Loggerhead Shrike
